  • The Temple of Kalabsha is an ancient Egyptian temple that was originally located near Aswan but was relocated to a new site to protect it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser.
  • The temple was built by Emperor Augustus in the Roman period and was dedicated to Mandulis, a Nubian sun god.
  • The temple features many fine reliefs and inscriptions, such as a carving of Horus emerging from reeds and a record of the Nubian king Silko’s victory over the Blemmyes.
  • The temple is the largest free-standing temple of Egyptian Nubia and one of the best examples of Egyptian architecture in Nubia.
